Through its partnership with Trees for the Future, Ecoist plants a tree for every bag that it sells.

With a growing trend in eco-friendly fashion, Ecoist has launched its new line of colorful one-of-a-kind handbags made from recycled candy wrappers and announced it has planted an additional 400 trees through its commitment to environmental preservation.

Ecoist is a Miami-based company that produces and markets a line of handbags designed by designer Marisa Rey. The handbags are made from excess and misprinted material used to make recycled candy wrappers, food packages, and soft drink labels. Ecoist takes these reject paper and plastic labels and weaves them into one-of-a-kind handbags with patterns and colors that vary widely. Ecoist plans to launch new lines of fashion and home accessories made from recycled and organic materials.

“By creating durable, stylish and trendy products that are made from recycled or organic materials, we hope to increase the demand for eco-friendly fashion and create a positive impact on our earth” says Jonathan Marcoschamer, one of the company's co-founders. “We are happy to share our vision with other brands of sustainable products since we believe that it's not only our human responsibility to preserve the environment, but that there is a real business opportunity in pursuing this vision” he concludes.

Ecoist handbag prices range from a $27 coin purse to a $285 large beach tote, with several clutches in the $100 range. Patterns range from colored metallics to cartoon images in candy wrappers and “confetti” combinations.
