TREES FOR THE FUTURE, a charitable organization based in Silver Spring, Maryland, is pleased to welcome Dr. and Mrs. Reinhard Hittich, owners of GREENPOWER, as participants in our global program to restore trees and forests to the degraded lands of the Developing World.
GREENPOWER, a producer of herbal medicines, organic foods, and other health products, is located in the Netherlands. They promise their customers that a tree will be planted for every health product they purchase. This year, their grant will make possible the planting of more than two million permanent, fast-growing and beneficial trees in the countries of Ethiopia, Honduras, India, the Philippines and Rwanda.
These trees provide sustained and important benefits to the people of these communities and to the rest of the world as well. Each tree annually removes more than 50 lbs. (23 Kg.) of carbon dioxide from the global atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the major "greenhouse gas" responsible for global climate change. Trees return this gas to the soil, replacing it with oxygen while converting the carbon into food, shelter and other products the people of these lands desperately need. |
